Technology Coaches inspire and participate in the development and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive integration of technology to promote excellence and support transformational change throughout the instructional environment in the following ways:
- Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students
- Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels
- Advocate for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school and district technology plans and guidelines
- Implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and manage the change process in schools and classrooms.
To achieve a shared vision, a leader must receive and implement input from team members to create goals everyone can support. A successful leader is one who encourages his/her followers, empowering them to become autonomous citizens in the digital education society. This coming year, our high school will go 1:1, with every students grades 9-12 having his/her own Chromebook. Students will be able to take these home and are encouraged to have them all day in school, using them during class to complete assignments, collaborate with peers, and communicate digitally.
We are rolling out a new district website, and I have been fortunate enough to have a seat at the table to learn about the inner workings of the website and become one of the site managers. I will also be the social media manager for our website, building and sharing content that will pique our community members' interest and give us a strong online presence.
I assist the SLED group (Students Leading Education). This group consists of students who range in the technological savvy but who are, nonetheless, unmistakable leaders in our school. Our SLED students serve as advocates to bridge the gap between the community and digital age education. They initiate programs and plans, like rebranding areas of our school, building an outdoor classroom, fixing broken Chromebooks and other devices, and working with iSchool Initiative, which empowers young students to take a leadership role in enhancing their educational communities. SLED recently competed in a national virtual competition through iSchool, got first place, and won $1,000! Check out their submission video under Artifacts.

#1: Belvidere High School SLED Wins the iSchool Virtual Competition!
SLED winning this competition speaks volumes about the initiative our students have taken in leading the change in the way we view and experience education. They are autonomous in their projects, plans, and the ways they utilize technology to accomplish their academic goals. My objective as a coach and educator is to be more of a facilitator, assisting students as needed, but ultimately, allowing them to lead themselves to comprehension, analysis, and synthesis. Watch their submission video below!

#2: New School Website
On July 1, 2018, we launched a brand new district website. Our tech team has been working diligently for months, preparing for this launch. We engaged in various training sessions to learn the ins and outs of our new website. These sessions were highly informative for me, and they took my technology expertise to a whole new level. I am proud of what I’ve created on this site and impressed with my newfound knowledge. With it, I hope to help other colleagues edit various pages of our site and to carry it over to different projects, within our district and beyond.
Check out the high school page of our new website, the area I was responsible for creating!
